Today's news briefs

A law ordering Israeli companies to pay damages of 100,000 shekels to any employee who is fired during army reserve duty was unanimously passed in the Knesset on Tuesday evening. Eight Palestinians were injured on Tuesday evening when a tunnel used for weapons smuggling collapsed. There are indications that other terrorists are still trapped under the rubble. 22:53 According to Palestinian sources, the IDF injured two members of the Al-Quds Brigades, in the north of the Gaza Strip, during an air raid. The IDF did not confirm the report. (Guysen.International.News)
22:26 Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, told Republican Senator Arlen Specter, who is scheduled to meet with the Syrian president on Thursday: ''We are awaiting a response'' regarding peace proposals made to Syria by Israel. Specter has offered to mediate between the two countries. 22:12 Palestinians threw two Molotov cocktails at a police car that was traveling along the road from Jerusalem to Modi'in. The police opened fire in the direction of their aggressors, and it appears they succeeded in wounding one of the terrorists. None of the police was injured, but their vehicle was damaged. 21:47 An IDF helicopter raid in the north of the Gaza Strip. The Air Force bombed terrorists who had launched kassam rockets at Israel. It appears that a rocket launcher was destroyed. (Guysen.International.News)

19:33 The Egyptian Foreign Ministry officially reacted on Tuesday evening charges by Israel that Cairo does not fight effectively against arms trafficking and smuggling tunnels in the Gaza Strip. In a press release, the Egyptian authorities ''advised the Israeli minister, Tsipi Livni to focus on negotiations with the Palestinians, and not to speak of matters she does not understand.''
