Creation and Redemption, 5771

Nurit Greenger
When I look around these days I shake my head with dismay. I see an up-side-down world and the people living in it hopelessly and helplessly confused. We live in a world that is in a moral free fall.

There is a gem of a saying, “To speak the truth is a petit-bourgeois habit. To lie, on the contrary, is often justified by the lie’s aim. The whole world’s capitalists and their governments, as they pant to win the international market, will close their eyes to the above-mentioned reality and will thus transform themselves into men who are deaf." The root of all evil lies in lying. The liars assume the lie as truth and act on it; act on evil!

There are only two nations in the world that can save humanity: The United States and Israel.

Since it was founded, the United States of America has been recognized for its exceptionalism. At least on a historical basis, the United States and its people differ from other nations, as an association of people who came from numerous places throughout the world, but who hold a firm common bond. The American people are known to stand for certain self-evident truths, like freedom, inalienable natural and human rights, democracy, republicanism, the rule of law, civil liberty, civic virtue, the common good, fair play, private property, and constitutional government.
The United State has always been an Island of goodness. Now this goodness has been tremendously eroded and weakened and evil can be seen everywhere in the land.
It is very difficult to be unique, and the Jewish faith is unique. Jews' main duty is to bring social justice to the entire world. To be light unto the nations.
When modern Israel was established on the ruins of the ancient land of Israel, it resumed its old task to be a light unto the nations. However, the Arabs and their cohorts, the anti-Semites, will not let the Jewish state live in peace and do its assigned task. They simply do not want the world to be a place full of goodness. A world full of goodness is not Islam compliant, nor it is anti-Semitism and bigotry compliant.

When the ancient Hebrews, the Israelites, finally settled in their Promise Land, they looked around and saw that the nations surrounding them were ruled by kings. They Jews then said to each other, "Let us be like all other nations, let us have a king." This did not pan out too well for the Jews. They ended up in exile and for 2000 year Jewish history was drenched with Jewish blood.

With a post American president Obama at the helm, a man who does not believe in the United States of America's exceptionalism, it appears that the US is now saying, let us be like all other nations, let us have a big government.

The Moslems, call the USA the 'Big Satan' and Israel the 'Little Satan'. Many people, other than Moslems, now side with this slant. Since the United State and Israel are lumped into the Stan's band, what kind of future can the USA expect when its exceptionalism has been tossed over?

As the Jewish New Year-Rosh Hashanah is approaching, each and every Jew—and American—needs to ask, himself or herself: who am I am a human being? How am I doing in this up-side-down world? Do I justify the status in which the world is in now or the path it is on? Am I doing something for the goodness of the world?

God created the world based on judgment and mercy. On Rosh Hashanah the concept of 'Teshuvah',—penitence—the return to one inner perception, is added. This is the time when God tells the Jews to return; to return to being who they have to be, exceptional and light unto the nations.

According to present times, by its return to its ancient land of Israel, the Jewish Nation has already made Teshuvah. All that is left is for the individual Jew to take the last leap of Teshuvah and effect it.

With' Teshuvah' comes the Tikun-the correction and redemption of mankind. When each individual makes his or her Tikun, then the Nation as a whole has made Tikun, which will affect the Tikun—the correction and redemption of the universe.

The United States must resume its role as an exceptional nation and Israel must have peace from the Arabs so it can effect, peacefully, its role as light unto the Nations.

The entire Jewish thought is suspended between the twins poles of creation and redemption. The creation of the State of Israel has been the beginning of redemption and redemption is the climax of creation. Redemption is creation and creation is redemption. The formula is simple; all it needs is for each individual, American and Jew, to work it through.

With redemption the world will be a better place to live in. The universe already exists in the state of 'Teshuvah', it is up the United States and Israel to give it the last push! Immense task but so hugely worth it!
