Obama & Romney’s elitist ignorance on Islam

William Murray rips both for thinking more wealth will ‘moderate’ nations
The final debate between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama Oct. 22 was depressing to watch. The Romney camp had made the decision that only the economy matters in this election, and so arguments about foreign affairs should be avoided. As a result, Mitt Romney won the debate by agreeing with Obama on all major foreign-affairs issues, only differing on how to reach roughly the same goals.

During the debate, it became clear that neither Romney nor Obama understands that there are 2.5 million Christians in Syria – over 10 percent of the population. Not a single mention was made of the Syrian Christians or a solution for them. Both men want the overthrow of the secular government of Syria, and both have vivid imaginations of a Jeffersonian democracy being installed there. That went real well for George W. Bush in Iraq and Afghanistan, didn’t it?

Both Romney and Obama clearly stated policies that would actually hand over the nation of Syria to the Muslim Brotherhood, as has already been done by Obama in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya. The persecution of Christians in those new Muslim Brotherhood nations was not addressed at all.

Any Christian with enough money is fleeing Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood president just this past week was at a mosque where he prayed this public prayer with the imam:
“Oh Allah, absolve us of our sins, strengthen us, and grant us victory over the infidels. Oh Allah, destroy the Jews and their supporters. Oh Allah, disperse them, rend them asunder. Oh Allah, demonstrate Your might and greatness upon them. Show us Your omnipotence, oh Lord.”

The Muslim Brotherhood president of Egypt is praying to “destroy the Jews,” yet both Romney and Obama want yet another Muslim Brotherhood nation on the borders of Israel.

Obama just flat out favors Islam. Romney agrees with Obama on the Middle East out of ignorance. Romney is an elitist who has done business with “nice” Muslims in the past and can see no problems with “normal” Islam. He may not have a problem with them, but they sure have a problem with him. In Islam, there is a special hatred for Mormons because they are not considered “dhimmi” or “people of the book” as are Christians.

As the debate continued, both Romney and Obama said that the solution to fighting radical Islam is economic development. Both believe that making Muslims richer will make them moderate and pro-Western.
HELLO! The 9/11 terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, one of the wealthiest nations in the world. Most of them had college educations. Well-educated and wealthy Muslims are the leaders of every terrorist group. Osama bin Laden had enormous wealth, and his family still does. The current leader of al-Qaida is a medical doctor.

My message to Romney and Obama: Making madmen rich does not make them moderate; it only allows them to buy better weapons. The idea of a debt-ridden nation such as ours sending money to the wealthy oil nations of the Middle East to make them “moderate” is the most absurd thought process ever. There is no rational logic that can lead to the conclusion that raising the standard of living of a nation makes its leaders more moderate.

Iran is not a poor nation. Even with the sanctions against Iran, the nation and its people are well off. The nation is well-educated and turns out more doctors and engineers per capita than the United States. By the Romney/Obama logic, all we need to do is raise the standard of living further in Iran, and they will all become “moderate.” That is flat out nuts.

Islam must be contained, because civilizing it is simply not possible. When that is understood by an American president, progress can be made toward a rational solution in the Middle East that protects Israel and the Christian minorities of Arab nations.
